It's official: Bears playing for pride from here out

OK, believers in "The Way" I know I haven't posted in, wow, six days, but I'm back and looking to reflect on what was a wild end to Thanksgiving Weekend.

First off, let me start on my Bears getting pummeled in Minneapolis yesterday at the hands of the Vikings. I made a Twitter post about this last night that pretty much ends what may be the most disappointing Bears season of my lifetime. I can't remember ever having such high expectations shattered like this in my years of following this team.
And again it came down to just being overpowered by the Vikings on both sides of the ball. There were some times when it looked like it could have been a closer game as the Bears defense forced a fumble early and helped keep the Vikings to just 7 points in the first quarter.
After that, missed chances proved too much and the Vikings just showed how good they were when they made it a 24-7 game at halftime. And it was another "here we go again" moment for this team.
Then the second half happened and pretty much slapped the Bears out of anything resembling a search for something positive to take out of the game. That's what 2 yards of total offense (YES TWO GODDAMN YARDS!) will get you in the second half.
This team is no where near where people thought it was at the beginning of the season, especially me, after picking them to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl in February.
I'll get to what could be an answer to fix this team in a minute in one of my other pressing issues later...



And watching the game with (GULP!) my favorite Vikings fan, Amanda, I can say I officially heard it from all angles. Well, she's too sweet to be mad at, so hey. She wins the bet we had and now I owe her a date. :D



Yep, Charlie Weis has officially been shown the door at Notre Dame. And I've been saying for a while after reading something by the Chicago Tribune's David Haugh that this was the guy I though the Bears should look at if he was available. I mean, let's be real, this is now Jay Cutler's team and General Manager Jerry Angelo needs to do everything in his power to give him the the tools to succeed. Bringing in Charlie as the offensive coordinator would be the first step to show he's committed. I mean, he's got a heck of a track record with quarterbacks (starting with Tom Brady) and would be a breath of fresh air in the Windy City.
I like this as the start to build around Jay and get him the pieces he needs. Plus, I'm sure with an OC like Weis and a QB like Jay, the Bears could draw the No. 1 receiver they are looking for. It is the one thing they are lacking from the skill players offensively. That's not mentioning the offensive line which needs to be reworked this offseason because it is been downright awful this year.

And yes, I can tell you that this is Jay's team. Even though my favorite Bear, Brian Urlacher, piled on the guy I go to bat for anytime someone bashes this team, Jay. I guess when a member of the media, in this case, Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver, spends a day watching the Bears game with the All-World middle linebacker.
As David Haugh puts it in the Tribune today, the comments Brian made make it clear he indeed may have called the new quarterback a "Pussy" on the eve of training camp.

No this is not yet the "Nussie Hunter" portion of the broadcast, I have a good one planned for you today, that's the Sports Illustrated "Sportsman of the Year" Derek Jeter with "The Mrs." Minka Kelly in St. Bartz. (Yeah, she's hot!)
He did bring the trophy back to the Bronx this year and as I found out from spending a lot of time cheering with my boy Vaughan during the playoff run, the guy is a hero to NYC. So, hell why not. I'd say he deserves it.
Oh, and plus, I'm always looking for a reason to get Minka in this space in a bikini so when Jeter gives her the grand tour of St. Bartz, it's like gasoline on a fire! Ha!

Alright, we've now reached the Nussie Hunter portion of today's blog and I must say it's a special treat today. We're going to do a side-by-side comparison today for the first time in Wilber's Way history. Also, be sure to make your voice heard as to which one of the following women is the better choice by commenting below.
I'm sure by now you've heard of the situation involving Tiger Woods Thursday night around 2:30 a.m. when he wrecked his car. Well, I'm not going to re-hash the events, but I will show you both of the women he's "involved" with and you tell me which one you would rather have. I'm going to go on record as saying Elin Nordegren, the incumbent wife and mother of his two children is much hotter than this Rachel Uchital he is rumored to have had an affair with.

Well, Amanda's Way has gone back to Wilber's Way (At least for now). She did a great job, but I'm back off assignment and after taking yesterday to sulk after a Bears loss, I'm back at it today.

Let's talk about the Bears. They haven't been very intimidating to anyone in the last month and have been downright awful at times. It seems like a regular Tuesday occurrence for me to spend time dissecting Jay Cutler's performance, but this week was especially hard to watch. As a sports guy and someone I think reads body language pretty well, you can just see him frustrated as hell at time Sunday night.
That five-pick game in San Fran last Thursday has surely gotten to him and now he's in his own head. I'm a baseball guy and something coaches teach kids playing the game is to have a short memory. You can't let that last at-bat influence you on the next one. The same can be said for him as a quarterback. He almost needs to forget that game ever happened. He has at least three passes that would have been touchdowns had he not overthrown Devin Hester or Greg Olsen by at least five yards.
Then the throws he does get to guys, they don't make plays on and you can see him just wanted to vent.
I'm very loyal to my quarterback (See me back in the Rex Grossman years) and I think he just needs some help. The line is awful and without a run game, teams are scheming just to shut Jay down and it's killing him. Add to that the fact only Greg Olsen is a receiver he trusts in the clutch and Jerry Angelo should take notice to get the man some help. Unfortunately that can't be done through the draft as the team has traded away its No. 1 and No. 2 pick this year for Jay and Gaines Adams, who has shown he is not worth the No. 2 at all!
On top of that, I'm not sure Ron Turner is a guy that knows how to handle a quarterback like him. He's been great with guys like Rex who he can have turn and hand the ball off, but Jay is a prolific passer and needs a guy to call the plays and have his back. Ron Turner is not that guy for Jay.
There is an embattled college coach at Notre Dame who could be on the way out that helped build Tom Brady into the best in the game. Maybe when he becomes free, he can help Jay. Just spit balling here.

While I'm on a Bears tip, I know it's not going to get any easier next week. And AJ isn't exactly helping things. I know you read her blog Thursday where she admitted to being a Vikings fan. Well, this is what she bought the other day... She's lucky she's awesome in so many other areas that I can overlook the being a Vikings fan and just realize she flat out looks good in purple...



Changing gears a little bit, saw this on SI.com's Hot Clicks today and had to post this hear. Ron Artest was on Jimmy Kimmel last night and showed up in his underwear. Dude is a bit out there. Not sure where he gets it from. This is Part 1. Be sure to check Part 2 of the interview, here.



Now to some randomness, that is rather awesome. My boy Golberg linked to this today on Facebook and when I saw it I knew it was great. I was a big fan of the Muppets when I was a kid and this is a great video that gets pretty much all of them involved. Who doesn't love a little Bohemian Rhapsody?

Never had one, but wow, they sure as hell trip my trigger. Sofia Vergara is one of the best. She was in an episode of Entourage a couple years back and is just plain hot. I mean, check this pic and decide for yourself. WHOA!!!

Hello Wilber's Way!
I'm sure most of you have heard my name mentioned here before. My Name is Amanda or aka AJ and yes, I am the first female writer to be featured on Wilber's Way. I'm mostly known for giving Aaron ideas on what Nussie should be posted (just lately though), for it's a on going process of which "hottie" is worthy to see Wilber's Way. As Aaron mentioned in yesterday's blog, he's out on assignment for his FT job so a few of his friends get to take over Wilber's Way for a couple days. Well without further ado, let's put a face with a name.

If you look back to the blog dated November 11th: Aaron stated that it was the last time you would see a sighting of J.J. Hardy on Wilber's Way, since being traded to the Minnesota Twins. Well, he should of known better handing the reins over to me, that I would make sure J.J. Hardy was seen on Wilber's Way one last time. I am a huge fan and thought that he deserves one last look.

Okay, onto the real sports talk now people.... You were probably wondering when I was finally going to talk about sports, right? After all, this is a sports blog. Well, here's the scoop. I really know nothing about sports. I love to watch baseball and football, and I enjoy playing basketball. So please don't expect me to give you stats or play by play because it's just not there. I know more than the average woman does about sports, but by no means am I a sports editor.
However, it is football season.
How about let's talk about another one of my favorite athletes:
Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.



Adrian is not any older than I am, scaling in at only 24 years old. He went to high school in Palestine, TX and attended college at Oklahoma University or OU. Adrian was the first player in school history to rise above 3,000 rushing yards in two seasons. His senior year at OU he decided that he would forgo his senior year of college and enter the 2007 NFL Draft where it was predicted that he would be a top five draft choice. On April 28, 2007, Peterson was selected by the Minnesota Vikings with seventh overall pick. Three months later on July 29, 2007, Adrian signed his contract with the Vikings for $40.5 million over five years. On February 10, 2008, Adrian won the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl MVP award with 16 carries for 129 yards rushing along with two touchdowns. The 129 rushing yards was the second in Pro Bowl history. Adrian was the first rookie since Marshall Faulk in 1995 to win the Pro Bowl MVP award. 2009 is Peterson's third season in the NFL, his current stat for rushing yards to date is 4,018. Currently, Adrian Peterson is among one of the top running backs for rushing yards in the NFL. As a Adrian Peterson fan or "AP" as I say, "Go Vikings."

Julia Stiles is by far my favorite actress. She's most famous for her role as Sara Johnson in "Save the Last Dance" and Nicky in "The Bourne" series with Matt Damon. If you know Julia at all, she is a very classy, down to earth type of girl. Trying to find a "half-naked" picture of her so she would fit in with the other Nussie's that have been featured, was a little difficult I will admit. But, I did it and I hope you enjoyed yourself.

The resurgence of Good Jay coming?

Got a little bit of a different look today with some things burning as I will be on assignment for the rest of the week. So need to get some of the usual features out of the way early. More on that later, though. Here goes...

Jay Cutler had his weekly press conference today (WATCH IT HERE!) and the talk was obviously on limiting interceptions more specifically, red zone turnovers.
Not to always be the guy backing Jay, but hell, I am sorta that guy. I say against the Eagles this week it gets done He'll limit the turnovers and play a smart game. Remember Good Rex/Bad Rex days? This is starting to seem eerily similar to that and this is one game where we get Good Jay.
It is the Eagles coming to town and I see this as a game with them playing without Brian Westbrook again this week (he's had two concussions in three weeks). Could be a prime chance for the Bears to get a big win entering a rough stretch that includes the Vikings coming up on Nov. 29. This is almost as much of a must-win as there can be.
The defense is motivated for Lovie and the offense is focused behind Jay. Sounds like a winner to me.
Prediction: Bears 21, Eagles 17

Tomorrow we got our first female written blog coming from the mind of one AJ. She's pretty excited to pen "The Way" and I'm pretty excited to see what's on her mind as she won't clue me in on anything.
Friday is the return of Vaughan's Way. He did so well a couple weeks ago, it was time to give him a second run.

Closing the book on Casey McGehee's great rookie season

Sorry for the lack of a blog yesterday. It's a busy time for me at that other Web site I write for, so I had prior commitments. It was a big day for me as a fan as one of my favorite baseball players, Brewers third baseman Casey McGehee was in the running for National League Rookie of the Year. He finished fifth in the voting, which was a bit of a disappointment but it was speaks a lot for him to get there considering he spent the first six weeks of the season as bench player and was a waiver wire acquisition from the Cubs (of all teams) over the winter.
If you talked to me at all during the season, you would know that I thought from Day 1 he was worthy of a chance to show himself. Hell, my good friend R.J. and I even coined him a nickname the final weekend of the 2008 season when he was a member of the Cubs. It's not exactly "PG" but hey, when you're good, you most certainly are the "Tits." When he became a Brewer in the offseason, it was clear the nickname had to stick and Casey was going to be a player we kept an eye on through spring training.
We couldn't have been more right. The kid lit it up and earned himself a spot on the Brewers roster and actually led to the team telling Mike Lamb to go pound sand somewhere (LOSER!). When Bill Hall showed he wasn't the answer at third and Craig Counsel had to go play second when Rickie Weeks was lost for the season, the hot corner was all Casey's and he showed he deserved the spot.
In 116 games "Tits" hit .301 with 16 home runs and a rookie-best 66 RBI. On top of it all, he hit in probably one of the most important spots in the lineup, behind Prince Fielder as teams decided to walk Prince and take their chances on the rookie.
The most telling thing about him taking fifth was one of the quotes I read in Tom Haudricourt's story in the Journal-Sentinel.

"I'm kind of glad I didn't win because I've always had a little chip on my shoulder. I didn't feel slighted, but I feel like I still have something to prove to show it wasn't a fluke season."
How telling is that? So cool! You're the everyday third baseman for 2010, buddy, let's get it done!



Can't end up the season on "Mighty" Casey without a list of his great achievements. Right? So here goes. The Tits McGehee Top 5 for 2009!
5. His first career home run. -- On June 14, at home against the White Sox, McGehee hit career homer No.1 and it came against Mark Buerhle, who had a perfect game within the next month. Yep, that's a feather in his cap! Plus, what's a Top-5 list covering a rookie year without including HR No. 1?!
4. He started the first Brewers triple play in 10 years and fifth in club history -- It was more a product of him hugging the line against Aaron Rowand, but he did deliver a strike to Felipe Lopez and he's in the Brewers record books forever!
3. A 4-for-5, 5 RBI, 3 R game against the team that waived him at Wrigley Field on the Fourth of July-- Nothing is more of a middle finger to the team that said you weren't good enough for them than going in with your new team and lighting them up. Considering it was the only game of the three that weekend the Brewers won, it makes it even more impressive.
2. On the day his son, Mackail, throws out the first pitch, dad comes through with what turned out to be the game-winning two-run homer July 30 (VIDEO) against the Nationals. -- It was a great moment for a dad and a baseball player that day. Just a great story. One of the reasons why he grew to me throughout the season.
1. SWEET REDEMPTION -- After dropping a routine pop up in the top of the sixth inning, the boy made up for it in the bottom half of the inning with his first career Grand Slam. Afterward, he would say he was still more upset with the dropped ball. Another reason why he has become my favorite player.

Shifting gears a little bit, going to talk some football. Not sure if you saw what Maurice Jones-Drew did Sunday afternoon in the Jaguars/Jets game. He took a knew on the one-yard line with under two minutes to go with an open shot at the end zone. That would be all fine and dandy had the Jags had the lead and just needed to run out the clock, but they were trailing 22-21 at the time and needed a score to take the lead. He said coach Jack Del Rio told him to do that. It did end well, as the Jags won 24-22, but MJD had to apologize to fantasy owners after the game. I don't know about you, but I thought it was damn funny. Do what you need to do to win the game and forget about the fantasy football implications already.

Alright now to the Nussie Hunter portion of the broadcast. If you can't tell by my love for Casey McGehee, I kind of work off the beaten path and find things that aren't exactly main stream. Well talked with AJ today and came back with another one of those things. She introduced me to Celina Jaitley, who is a hot Bollywood actress who has turned to stripping. Yeah, odd career path, but hey. She's damn, hot. Check her below, then check this out.

If you're looking for me to pile on Jay... move along!

A little late in the day with a post game look of the Bears Week 10 outing this week and if you saw or heard anything about it, you'd know why. I can honestly say it was the most I've ever been more sure something good was going to happen only to be left for heart break.
Anytime a quarterback starts his press conference by apologizing to the defense like Jay Cutler did last night, you know it was a rough game. What does the defense say about it? NOT NECESSARY! And rightfully so. I mean, really? I know what he's doing and yeah I'd be sorry, too, but Jay you did the best you can, buddy. And I know some smart ass is going to take that and say "Yeah, shitty!" Well, whatever, jabroni. The fact of the matter is Jay has no help on the offensive side of the ball. It became clear down the stretch Jay only had faith in one guy to catch the big pass and his name is Greg Olsen.
Of the five interceptions I'd say the first one was on him and the fifth one was on him. The other three were on the receiver. The Hester one, especially is caught if Devin does not fall down.
Of course, the national pundits have to pile on and make this about Jay being a punk and not knowing what he's doing. Really?
Well, I'd say the offense looked pretty good last night aside from the picks. If Matt Forte can't get it going running the ball, they found ways to get him involved last night and it was a good thing to see. Devin Hester caught seven passes and so did Olsen to spread things around.
And I can't remember the last time the Bears had a 300-yard passer in back-to-back games. Jay is the key to this offense if he has something better than the WORST offensive line protecting him and giving the running back a chance to turn the offense into anything but one sided.
To all you haters: GET OFF IT! If you want Jay out of town, you probably have a friend who says they hate the Packers now while Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson are still a part of the team. Get a clue! Put your fair-weather fan gear back in the closet and give us TRUE fans the chance to cheer this team. I'm riding this No. 6 train to the end in 2013 come hell or high water.




While I'm feeling upset, let's talk fights. This weekend has a damn good one over on the boxing front. I know most of the world has ditched the sport for mixed martial arts, but this one between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto has a chance to be great. And it could set up one of the greatest fights ever as if Manny wins he will get a shot at Floyd "Money" Mayweather which the entire world is looking forward to. I don't claim to be a fight expert, I just like to watch two guys beat the tar out of one another, so check out a good preview of the bout here on SI.com.
Call me a front runner, but I'm rooting for Manny in this one.

Finally, this is a baseball video and not really in season, but still good. If you know me you know I got to TON of Brewers games each year. That usually means my significant other, if she wants to hang out with me, has to come along. Because of that, I've made it somewhat of a man rule to not propose to a girl at a ball game. I mean I'm going to drag her to countless games before the question if popped and if she becomes my wife she will continue to come along, so I'd give her that moment and not do it at a sporting event. Anyways, check this...



Today's Nussie Hunter stays with a theme for the weekend of big fights. Not sure if you saw the Playboy a couple years back, but one of the original UFC Octagon girls, Rachelle Leah. She knows fights and let's see, she knows how to carry a card with a number on it. Oh and she looks good. Does her job and does it well! Ha!

Crabtree? No, the Niners have a bad case of VD!

It's a rare Thursday night edition of a Bears preview, just over an hour before kickoff, so I know most of you aren't going to catch this before the game. Going to skim over a couple storylines to keep an eye on if you catch it during the game.
The main storyline between both the Bears and 49ers during this short week was what was said by Vernon Davis about the Bears defense. Is this guy really an idiot giving prime bulletin board material saying his team is going to shred the Bears defense? No wonder fans in SF are buying shirts like these about both Davis and Michael Crabtree. DAMN! All I can say is keep your head on a swivel Mr. Davis because you're going to get a couple shots tonight! He does present a hell of a matchup problem for the Bears as other than Lance Briggs I don't really have faith in the other two linebackers and putting a safety on him is out of the question because he'll just post up like a basketball player and take him to school on the low block.
Speaking of Briggs, this is the first time the Bears have played the '9ers since the tampering allegations when he was set to become a free agent two years ago. Here's what he had to say about the matter. I was so pissed at him when it was all going down, but was relieved when the Bears were able to sign him.
Of course there is the Niners coach, Mike Singletary, a Hall of Fame player with the Bears who has his No. 50 retired playing his former team for the first time. I have oodles of respect for the man. He runs his team the right way and you can do nothing but root for the guy to do well. That is of course, except for this night. I am going to enjoy watching him get fired up on the sidelines. A trait he no doubt got from Mike Ditka.
Finally, this is a make-0r-break game for the Bears as the talk all around Chicago is that Lovie Smith is on the hot seat. It's an idea that I shot down completely a couple weeks ago after the Bengals mangled his defense for 45 points. Well after another 41-point outting by the Cardinals the whispers have turned to screams and his head is being called for my the millions (AND MILLIONS!) of Bears fans in the greater Chicagoland Area (Sounds like a line from Wayne's World doesn't it?).
Well Lovie isn't buying any of it and his players are backing him. That's what you want to see. And if anyone wants to see Coach Lovie rolled out of town in two pieces, don't hold your breath. Simply not happening people. First, that would cost the Bears $11 million over the final two years of his contract. Oh yeah, remember that contact he signed before the 2007 season after taking the team to the Super Bowl? That gives him a mulligan here. And second, there is a certain someone this defense was built around that makes the Cover-2 scheme fly and his name his Brian Urlacher. Where is he at these days? That's right, he's sitting on the sidelines eating a towel like Jerry Tarkanian. It's proven that a GREAT middle linebacker makes the Cover-2 roll and the Bears just don't have it right now. They have good players trying to play the position, but not GREAT like Urlacher.
The fact of the matter is this: at 4-4 the Bears are at a point where it is make-or-break for the season. That goes for Lovie and the rest of the players who are being evaluated by management, just like Lovie, as the team tries to figure out who stays and who goes in 2010.

Alright, since this game is the first on the NFL docket this week, I went ahead and made my NFL picks. Had a mediocre week last week and kept pace in my pools. Here we go. Winners in bold.

Staying on an NFL trip. Found this video on today's Hot Clicks on SI.com, which made it official that The Who will be performing at halftime of the Super Bowl (Who decides this shit anyway. AWFUL!). That's not what this is about. It was linked by Chris Cooley in his blog and it absolutely hilarious. Jared Allen plays for the Vikings so I should hate him, but he is just too good... AT EVERYTHING he does!



On a non sports front, this is one you just have to watch. Carrie Prejean is that pageant Nussie that we got behind when Perez Hilton blasted her. Alright, she is most certainly not Nussie Hunter worthy, but this next girl is. She was on the Howard Stern Show Wednesday and was saying how she got breast implants AFTER winning Playmate of the Year in 2007. She was so insecure she would have sex with her boyfriend with her bra on. Really? Take a look at her now here. Hope none of you were completely turned off by what Vaughan wrote Friday. Heard someone hacked the account and he took things over. Haha. OK, I gave him the keys to the Ferrarri and he actually did a damn good job. Might need him again in a couple weeks, so look out! I actually owe him multiple beers now.



Didn't get a blog up Monday or Tuesday because I was so damn frustrated with the performance with my Bears last Sunday. It got very ugly at time with Kurt Warner just killing them all game. The lone bright spot of the game was Greg Olsen, who caught three touchdown passes from Jay Cutler.
Got a little quick side not before I get into anything regard that game. I know I talk a lot about Greg Olsen looking like He-Man. Take a look at G-Reg's photo here. Then peep the He-Man intro... Yeah, I'm not crazy. And yes, he did just miss out on being part of the ManCrush edition of the blog a couple weeks ago.



With a super short week for the team with a game Thursday night against the 49ers, and at the half-way point being 4-4, the season is in the balance in the next few weeks. The team says they are still confident they can save the season. It's not that I don't root for them (because I do), but I'm a realist and I have to be shown something encouraging and I haven't seen much of anything I like in the last few weeks.
I'll do a big-time preview of the game tomorrow before I run to Buffalo Wild Wings to catch the game on NFL Network. (I hope to have checks in the mail from both companies by the end of the week, thank you!).



Don't adjust your television sets, that is one last J.J. Hardy sighting on these pages. I know a certain someone (AJ, hope you're doing OK!) was rather upset when word came down he was traded to the Twins. I'm a bit miffed the move didn't yield pitching because this team is in dire need of it. But this starts kicking over a few dominoes as the team looks to build for 2010. I'm not doubting Carlos Gomez taking over in center field. He's got amazing speed and plays a great game in the field. That should be great. He doesn't hit well, which will need to be addressed, but is a problem.
With him taking over in center that means Mike Cameron is going to be out of town. Not a move I can say I endorse. Really was starting to like CAM (BOOGIE!), but have to go with a bit of a youth movement here to save funds to go after pitching.
That means the news out today that General Manager Doug Melvin is becoming more comfortable with bringing catching prospect Jonathan Lucroy up to take over the catching duties. He might not get the 134 games Jason Kendall did, but he's likely to get a large portion of them.
I don't mind any of these moves, I really don't, but as Journal-Sentinel columnist Michael Hunt said today, the youth usually means growing pains, and puts the team farther away from a pennant. Can't say I disagree with that. And why take a step back? The team has Prince Fielder's services for at least the entire 2010 season. Beyond, however, is uncertain as 2011 will be his final arbitration eligible year. The team needs to go for it now while they can.



One of the greats made it clear today he was hanging it up. Yep, Allen Iverson didn't want to come off the bench for the Memphis Grizzlies and has been given an extended leave of absence from the team. Not officially retiring, but it looks like it could be academic at this point. He is just fun to watch. For a guy that small to be able to do what he does is one of the most impressive things in all of sports.
Kind of funny though how, even to this day, he is remembered for this "Practice!" press conference from his days back in Philly...



Alright time for a bit more a fun and uplifting part of the broadcast. Yep, the Nussie Hunter! Time to get into something a bit more fun than looking at V's mom and girl. Today it's all about Isla Fisher. Got the idea from Amanda the other day to get her in this segment and you know I can't really find a reason not to. Let's see, she was funny in Wedding Crashers, was awesome in what is my fave Rom Com Definitely, Maybe and most important she's married to Sasha Baren Cohen. That says something about her: she loves a guy that can make her laugh, something I think I'm pretty good at. Well, without further ado...

As a native New Yorker, I am from Queens BTW (My mom is from the Bronx)....jerk, I am never one to expect a championship, but this one was deserved. I have been taking more ridicule than a bears fan in West Bend Wisconsin. Now we got it done, the pressure is lifted off of guys like A-Rod, Tex and CC and put exactly where it belongs to everyone who cannot use a Metrocard. Now the baseball world fears us once again and we reign supreme. TEX,A-ROD,CAP (#2), MO and DEK got it done .... My house still smells like Derek Jeter cologne and Miller Lite (my locker room celebration). Now this win puts NYC as a regional force (yea one city is more important than the whole region). The Giants wins over the Packers and Patriots put us on the map. THIS MADE US THE MAP. We fight again. Now if someone would remind the Knicks of that we would be in business. Being that the champagne is dry, the ticker tape is swept and the kids can go to sleep at a normal hour I must turn my energy to a group of 15 who play dead better than anyone in the Thriller videos (yea a Mike Jack Shout). And now I am watching Lebronathan destroy us, Happy Friday Drink up !!!! (post script the Knicks only lost by 9, POP THE BUBBLY)



In the note of the NBA and the wonderful New York Knicks. Do you remember when John Starks DUNKED on MICHAEL JORDAN and Horace Grant? I do it was the greatest day of my life (and I don't forsee that changing until I have a kid on purpose) P.S. John went up LEFTY!!! And P.P.S. When you Jordan fans admit that he got dunked on I'll put him in my top 20 players of all time.

So the NFL is happening this weekend I guess. And I am not nearly as extensive as that little boogie boy so I'll keep it simple. GIANTS beat the bolts unless Thor himself drops a bolt on Eli, Scary Pirates handled by the Green Bay Grocery Clerks, Thomas Braidme beats the fins himself. Fred Taylor slaps Larry Johnson. Ocho Cinco scores but "child please" you lose to Ray Ray. Game of the week is on Monday and I am chosing Big Ben to KAPOOOOWWWWWW Kyle Orton and John Elway too , by 15 (yea I gave you a number take it to Vegas).


So I wrote this as I was sitting at P.F. Changs drinking Mai Tai's and watching the Kicks ... (Knicks) get thowelleped (they were at the time) I can 't help but to think of my XMAS list. And besides a couple of Yankee things and Jordan Shorts (as close as i get to cheating on my girlfriend) I can't help but to realize that I need this ..................................... The Powermat

An old Chicago rivalry revistied when the Cards come to town

Alright a little different look to things today. As I'm a day early with my Bears preview and my NFL picks. Well, you know that other site I write for? Well I got a long day of watching high school girls volleyball tomorrow, so I will not be able to get a post together. More on that later. On to today's post...

The Arizona Cardinals come to town this week. And to be honest I'm not sure how things will unfold. I'm not really sold on the Bears secondary being able to keep up with the horses, or rather, the gazelles the Cardinals can send out in pass routes. And since the Bears front four can't really generate any pressure on their own to knock old wobbly Kurt Warner onto his backside.
I'm saying we could be in for a long day and might have to turn Jay Cutler loose to keep the Bears in the game. But I'm not sure that would amount to much, either since they can't seem to keep him upright, either.
My take on the game is this: It's going to be sloppy and could be rather high scoring. I'm saying the defense that steps up and make a play in the end is going to win. As a Bears fan, why don't I think that's going to be my team?

We all know what happened the last time these two teams got together. It was 2006 and the Bears were in the middle of a special season. The Bears ended up winning and then Dennis Green had steam blowing out of his ears.

Got a text from AJ this morning and I can't say she was wrong with yet another suggestion for this segment. Hayden Panettiere has been on the radar since she was that screaming little girl in "Remember the Titans." You just knew she was going to be a cute kid. In fact, she was on the fourth ever Wilber's Way ever published. It was also a Covino and Rich mention, so I figure I'll make it up to her here. Enjoy and nite good folks!

I don't think it's a shot at Pedro Martinez and I don't mind it really. It's the Post trying to sell a few papers.
You telling me every guy that knows how to use Photoshop (including me) wouldn't entertain that idea if they had thought of it? You know you would.
Well, Game 6 is on now and the Pedro is looking to keep the Phillies alive and force things into Thursday night and Game 7.
I'm listening to Scott Ferrall on Sirius Satellite Radio Howard 101 and he makes a great point that Pedro is one of the great personalities in all of baseball and sports for that matter.

Alright. Since we were rolling down a list of WAGS, I was trying to come up with ideas for some different girls to come up with in today's Nussie Hunter segment. And since Amanda takes pride in getting her shout outs, she sends me texts throughout the day with ideas. So, AJ, here a you go. To make a baseball reference to this and make it mean something, Beyonce is married to Mr. Carter who did perform "Empire State of Mind" before Game 2 of the Series. So well, here's Beyonce. Thinking this might be a fairly old photo, but hey, it's hot and I couldn't resist.

Someone's gotta give props to Utley and the Phillies...

I know Vaughan is probably not going to like this, but I'm finally going to give the Phillies credit. You know, since I didn't pick them to win the NLCS or even the World Series. You know the old saying "Never under estimate the heart of a champion!"? (I think it was a Jimmy V. line) Well, it couldn't be more true.
Chase Utley has pretty much willed the Phillies back into the Series and pushed things back to Yankees Stadium with a record five home runs in a World Series. In fact, the seven home runs in World Series play are the most all-time for a second baseman. Yeah, this kid is good.
Leads to the question: Can Chase Utley win the World Series MVP even if the Phillies don't win?
You know, it's a valid argument. Only once has a player on the losing team won the Super Bowl MVP honor, one in NBA Finals history and just five in Stanley Cup playoffs history (maybe a little easier since it's not just the finals).
Hey, if the Phillies can get this thing to Game 7, anything can happen and if he stays hot he can realistically further this record.
He's one of the "Good Guys" in the game. Plus, how can we forget what he gave us last year after winning the World Series? If the BFF wasn't emotionally invested as Yankees fan, I'd pay to find out what is going to happen at this year's parade! (The good stuff comes around 40 seconds in)



My call is this: It's Pettitte against Pedro in Game 6 and Andy is on three-days rest. Doesn't bode well for the Yanks. But can we expect more "vintage" Pedro like we got in Game 2? I say no. The Yanks clinch Wednesday night. Vaughan, be sure to have your furniture covered in plastic and the champagne on ice throughout the day, buddy! Could be a fun night!

It is Tuesday, which has become the usual day for me to make mention of one of my favorite shows, How I Met Your Mother. The show has put out a book already, "The Bro Code" and pushed it as written by Barney Stinson. They have come out with the next book in the series, "Bro on the Go" Check it here. First, though, here's a look at "The Bro Code." So funny!



Before we got on to the Nussie Hunter portion of the broadcast, shoutouts have become something of a bragging point among my friends and after a day of bowling at West Allis Lanes with the fine folks that help with Milwaukee Public Schools Adaptive Athletics, I figure they deserve one. Had a ball today with Annie McGinnity and the gang. Even though Susie beat me in both games, by a combined three pins. I'm gracious in defeat to friends, so good work!

Alright, now to everyone's favorite part of the show, the Nussie Hunter segment! Mark it on your calendars and send someone to double-check the space-time continuum because we have a country music chick on here in back-to-back days. Carrie Underwood has been lighting the world on fire since after she won American Idol a couple years back. Her new album dropped today and is available on iTunes (I'm sucking up to make it better for the both of us!). Now the pay off (since I don't really care if she sells 1 album or 1 million albums) as you, me and the next guy are "Reaping all the benefits..." And the best part.... It's AJ approved. Haha.

Did we expect anything less against the Browns?

As I sit down to write this, I can honestly say, I've never been more in a "yeah, but" mood after a 30-6 Bears win as I have been over the last 24 hours. Yeah, the Browns are that bad and yeah the Bears aren't much better than average.
Going to be kind of harsh again today, so be ready. It was ugly as hell from the get-go for the Bears who couldn't do much to keep guys off Jay Cutler. Josh Beekman moved in to start at left guard next to Orlando Pace and it has become official, Pace SUCKS! That left side got blown up every time and kept the Bears out of the end zone on four red zone trips in the game. Call me a cynic if you will, but I did watch that Vikings/Packers game later in the day and if the Bears want any chance at staying towards the top of the division, they need to fix some things.
The main area of concern is the offensive line. Not sure if it's all five guys, but the move that was made didn't change much. The worst part of it all is the ridiculous nature of Bears fans that, first, blame Jay Cutler for not knowing what to do with the ball, and second, blame Ron Turner. I mean, really people? Are we watching the same game, or because I get paid to watch football do I know that much more than the next guy? I listened to 670 AM WSCR for the little bit today and most were jumping all over both guys. Here's David Haugh's story in the Tribune today that talks about just that point. I was listening to the Sirius NFL Radio the other day and they were talking about the issue and made a point that sticks with me. Tim Ryan said if you can run the ball, you can protect your quarterback. Right now, the Bears can't do either. Matt Forte looks pedestrian at best and the rest of the offense sputters. Two of this team's four losses were because Cutler took things over in the final two minutes and it it wasn't for those, the only wins the team has is against the Lions and the Browns. Doesn't speak well for them, huh?
There might be some adjustments there and the key might be as simple as shifting to more 3-step drops and finding a way to get Forte the ball out of the backfield in the passing game. It might be an option I'd look into. Watching Jay Cutler tend to his tongue was telling after getting rocked because his O-line is downright awful says something for the toughness of the guy, but he can't hang on forever.
The one bright spot may have been the defense which forced five turnovers and finally started hawking the ball and showed its lowest points allowed total of the season. Then again, against the Browns, wasn't that expected? There were times they looked great and others where if they had been playing a "real" NFL team, they would have gotten destroyed. Wow, I could beat on this all day. At least the players know they have to get better and hopefully they are not content with the win.

At halftime of the game yesterday the Bears did do something awesome in honoring Walter Payton. The Payton family was on hand and it become official that a statue to "Sweetness" himself outside Soldier Field is going to be erected in the near future. The weekend was the 10-year anniversary of his death at the age of 45. You can go here to watch the video that was shown at Soldier Field.
I must say I was a little young to get a chance to see him in the prime of his career and appreciate it. I said this on the 25-year anniversary of him becoming the all-time leading NFL rusher that the more I read about him, the more he reminds me of Michael Jordan in terms of what he meant to the city, the sport and the team. As well as what he was able to do for the guys that played around him. The quotes they show in the video are amazing and could bring anyone to do their best. That's why I look to MJ. As a kid he showed me to never give up. Hard work will get you where you want to go in life. If someone says you can't do something, then that is the motivation you need to prove them wrong. Sweetness was that guy, too. Quiet, hardworking and blue collar. He missed one game his entire career and that was a coach's decision because he had a bum big toe. Yes, a big toe is the reason Sweetness missed his only NFL game. How ironic is that?



Now I know everyone and their brother watched the Packers/Vikings game yesterday for Favre, so I'm not going to get into that. Hat tip to Brett though!

Now we have finally arrived at the Nussie Hunter portion of today's broadcast. Got a little bit of a curveball for you today. Well, sort of. You're going to see Miranda Lambert and go where did that come from? Well, I made my debut on FM radio this weekend calling a high school football game on a station that is usually a country station (Big thanks to the Shark for being a great play-by-play guy!). So after talking with my boy RJ about the blog today, I figured why not?
Quick story: I almost met Miranda Lambert a couple years ago. Another good dudebro of mine, Josh, also works radio and she came to the Dodge County Fair. His radio station was sponsoring her that night so he was there doing an interview. He called me before he was going to talk to her. "How quick can you get here?" Well, bad news was I was covering a high school baseball game at Miller Park so was not going to make it. LAME, I know. Well, he looked good in the picture he took with her. All I heard later from him was, "She smelt AMAZING!" Ha!
