The 3 high seeds and the (friggin) Jets?!

With all respect to one Giants fan I know that is probably getting the nuess ready for the possibility that the J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS, beat the Colts and make the Super Bowl after Sunday.
I will say it's not that much of a crazy thought. I mean that defense played amazing yesterday and Darelle Revis shut down the Chargers. I read Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback today and he charted every pass play the Bolts ran against the Jets. It was 45 plays. Of those, only four went Revis' way for a total of minus-three yards, which includes and incompletion and a ridiculous interception. That kid is amazing and he might be the reason the Green Machine knocks the Colts off.
They rush the passer so well, Peyton is going to have his hands full all day long. I will say if there is one quarterback who is going to be able to keep up with Rex Ryan and his exotic blitzes and the famous Ryan 4-6 defense.
That Chargers-Jets game was about the only one worth anything over the weekend. Yes I went 2-2 once again, but really the two I lost I was really proven wrong. It didn't surprise me though. The Vikings and Jets did what I thought they needed to do to win those games. I thought the Cowboys had the chances early to kick the Vikings in the mouth and flat out fell on their face. That's when Brett Favre took over and the Vikings won the game in the trenches.
In the other two games, my picks, the Colts and the Saints showed exactly what I thought they would show. Reggie Bush played his best game as a pro with over 200 yards and two touchdowns that energized that team. And is Drew Brees just amazing or what? What do I hear coaches tell high school kids all the time, never get too high or too low? He is totally within himself in the big games and makes sure the rest of the guys around him do too.
Then the Colts... Wow. They made Joe Flacco their biotch all night long. The guy never really got into a rhythm and the Colts D showed they are a force. They are going to need that against the Jets. You have to remember that Mark Sanchez is a rookie and doesn't have a great arm. It's above average at best and you have to run the kitchen sink at him. Make him make some mistakes. That will make Peyton's job a little easier and make put the pressure on the Jets defense.
I'm really looking forward to Championship Sunday for sure! I'll do some more research during the week and have my picks for you Friday!


I tried to avoid anything American Idol last week, but this "Pants on the Ground" is a damn phenomenon. Even that Brent Favra guy is in on it.


Today is MLK Day and I figure I have to pay homage to the man in some capacity. So in listening to my boys Covino and Rich today on Sirius (Played a new awesome game "Name the famous black man") I was reminded of this. I love me some 'Coming to America' one of the funniest movies you'll ever watch.
Enjoy this..."Oops, I thought you were somebody else." Hahahaha.

Last night was the return of 24 to the airwaves. The Nussie Hunter, man, he was ecstatic about this. Yeah, he loves the show as much as anyone. While Jack Bauer is just greatness (Here's some great quotes), being the Nussie Hunter, you know he's about the ladies. None is better on 24 than Elisha Cuthbert. Yeah, she's back. Take a look at her below and the rest of the girls of all eight seasons of 24 here.

Fouth loss of season by 20 or more raises eyebrows in Chi-Town

It's becoming an almost regular occurrence for me to take to this space on Monday's and back Lovie Smith and say how he should keep his job and this season isn't totally his fault. Well, boys and girls, I'm starting to change my opinions. Another dismal loss without any positives to take whatsoever, besides the fact that NFL teams are allowed to be the only flight that lands in a major city during a snow storm, is a tough one to take.
The offense was bad all around, the defense crumbled and the special teams never really got a chance to do anything.
If the team just wasn't good I'd be OK, with just saying it, but Lovie dances around the topic during post game press conferences and then during his Monday meeting with the media makes a fool of himself.Yeah, he's losing a supporter and I'm not sure what I can say any more to back him.
I am a loyal guy and I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt to turn things around. I think the team needs a change in the offense for Jay's sake and some help. That's a point I've made clear before.
The defense needs playmakers. Lovie is calling that side of the ball this year and at times they have looked darn good. Losing the unit's best player hasn't helped matters much.
The fact of the matter is this, since the Bears lost Super Bowl XLI, the Bears have failed to reach the playoffs. That's something that cannot be argued. Players age and schemes around the NFL get built to take down Lovie's Cover 2 scheme. It is something very similar to what the West Coast offense did against the 4-6 defense back in the 80s. The Bears never got out of San Fran or New York after that.
I just hope Jerry Angelo knows what he's doing because lately he hasn't shown he does. Only make a move at the top if you know you can upgrade because I like to think Lovie is damn good at what he does.


Was combing the Interweb today and came across this story about a little dissension between Brett Favre and Brad Childress in Minnesota. I know there was an argument between the two of them, but I say this, don't read into this too much. They are good friends and Childress was trying to look out for the franchise and get the old guy out of a 19-point drubbing to the lowly Panthers.
I guess I live in Wisconsin and would like to see Favre and the Vikes tank down the stretch and see the Saints take the NFC so whatever trouble I can spot in Minnesota I'll take as a good thing. Not sure this will be much though. They Vikings do play the Bears on Monday night next week and unless it's 30 below or snowing like crazy on the lake front in Chicago next week, I don't see the Bears giving them a run.

And today's Nussie Hunter is a bit of a tribute. Heard news that Brittany Murphy passed over the weekend. Pretty sad. She was in Clueless and was awesome in 8 Mile next to my man Marshall. I figured I'd take this time to honor her in all her glory.

Did Drew Brees just seal the NFL MVP?

Last night his five touchdown performance and complete dismantling of the once vaunted New England Patriots helped jump Drew Brees to the front of the line as the NFL MVP.
Look what Drew Brees has done this year. The man has thrown already for over 3,00o yards and 27 touchdowns in leading his team to an 11-0 record. I'm not saying he'll win the award right now, but he's on the most complete team (when healthy) and is the best player on that team.
The way I look at it is this, the award is the Most VALUABLE Player. And right now Drew is the most valuable in the league. He's what makes that entire offense run. If you take him out of the mix, what are the Saints? They are nothing.
I will give credit to the other candidates at this time. Brett Favre is most certainly No. 2 on the list at the minute. He has thrown just three interceptions all season and for him that is impressive. The Vikings are the only team that can give the Saints a run to me in the NFC and Favre makes that that much more dangerous.
You can't forget about Peyton Manning, either, who has an 11-0 team of his own to lead. With an offense that has no running game to speak of Manning has taken the team on his back and was part of a comeback that erased a 17-0 deficit. He is the most cerebral QB in the game and is just amazing with what he does at the line of scrimmage.
Finally, I'd have to say Chris Johnson of the Titans has to be on the list, too. He's on pace to rack up over 2,000 yards this season and has run for over 125 yards in the last five games. That is damn impressive. Add to that Vince Young and the Titans have won five straight games and you can't deny the switch has been flipped for the Titans.

Got a couple other things that we need to take care of today.
First off, figured I'd link to you this story in the New York post talking with Rachel Uchitel where she vehemently denies the affair with Tiger Woods.

Now to a wild hockey video. Watch for the goalie who almost gets his head taken off by his own player. Yikes!



Next up we got a couple Victoria's Secret features on the same night as the VS fashion show airs on CBS. Supermodel Candice Swanapoel was on the NFL Today Sunday. Just watch the guys act like school boys. Even Coach Cowher stumbles...



Alright, she wasn't the Nussie Hunter for the day, but rather my favorite VS model of all time. She was a bit of my obsession through college and was a virgin until she recently got married and had a child. Yeah, we're all jealous. I give you Adriana Lima. She is nothing short of perfect if you ask me.

Did we expect anything less against the Browns?

As I sit down to write this, I can honestly say, I've never been more in a "yeah, but" mood after a 30-6 Bears win as I have been over the last 24 hours. Yeah, the Browns are that bad and yeah the Bears aren't much better than average.
Going to be kind of harsh again today, so be ready. It was ugly as hell from the get-go for the Bears who couldn't do much to keep guys off Jay Cutler. Josh Beekman moved in to start at left guard next to Orlando Pace and it has become official, Pace SUCKS! That left side got blown up every time and kept the Bears out of the end zone on four red zone trips in the game. Call me a cynic if you will, but I did watch that Vikings/Packers game later in the day and if the Bears want any chance at staying towards the top of the division, they need to fix some things.
The main area of concern is the offensive line. Not sure if it's all five guys, but the move that was made didn't change much. The worst part of it all is the ridiculous nature of Bears fans that, first, blame Jay Cutler for not knowing what to do with the ball, and second, blame Ron Turner. I mean, really people? Are we watching the same game, or because I get paid to watch football do I know that much more than the next guy? I listened to 670 AM WSCR for the little bit today and most were jumping all over both guys. Here's David Haugh's story in the Tribune today that talks about just that point. I was listening to the Sirius NFL Radio the other day and they were talking about the issue and made a point that sticks with me. Tim Ryan said if you can run the ball, you can protect your quarterback. Right now, the Bears can't do either. Matt Forte looks pedestrian at best and the rest of the offense sputters. Two of this team's four losses were because Cutler took things over in the final two minutes and it it wasn't for those, the only wins the team has is against the Lions and the Browns. Doesn't speak well for them, huh?
There might be some adjustments there and the key might be as simple as shifting to more 3-step drops and finding a way to get Forte the ball out of the backfield in the passing game. It might be an option I'd look into. Watching Jay Cutler tend to his tongue was telling after getting rocked because his O-line is downright awful says something for the toughness of the guy, but he can't hang on forever.
The one bright spot may have been the defense which forced five turnovers and finally started hawking the ball and showed its lowest points allowed total of the season. Then again, against the Browns, wasn't that expected? There were times they looked great and others where if they had been playing a "real" NFL team, they would have gotten destroyed. Wow, I could beat on this all day. At least the players know they have to get better and hopefully they are not content with the win.

At halftime of the game yesterday the Bears did do something awesome in honoring Walter Payton. The Payton family was on hand and it become official that a statue to "Sweetness" himself outside Soldier Field is going to be erected in the near future. The weekend was the 10-year anniversary of his death at the age of 45. You can go here to watch the video that was shown at Soldier Field.
I must say I was a little young to get a chance to see him in the prime of his career and appreciate it. I said this on the 25-year anniversary of him becoming the all-time leading NFL rusher that the more I read about him, the more he reminds me of Michael Jordan in terms of what he meant to the city, the sport and the team. As well as what he was able to do for the guys that played around him. The quotes they show in the video are amazing and could bring anyone to do their best. That's why I look to MJ. As a kid he showed me to never give up. Hard work will get you where you want to go in life. If someone says you can't do something, then that is the motivation you need to prove them wrong. Sweetness was that guy, too. Quiet, hardworking and blue collar. He missed one game his entire career and that was a coach's decision because he had a bum big toe. Yes, a big toe is the reason Sweetness missed his only NFL game. How ironic is that?



Now I know everyone and their brother watched the Packers/Vikings game yesterday for Favre, so I'm not going to get into that. Hat tip to Brett though!

Now we have finally arrived at the Nussie Hunter portion of today's broadcast. Got a little bit of a curveball for you today. Well, sort of. You're going to see Miranda Lambert and go where did that come from? Well, I made my debut on FM radio this weekend calling a high school football game on a station that is usually a country station (Big thanks to the Shark for being a great play-by-play guy!). So after talking with my boy RJ about the blog today, I figured why not?
Quick story: I almost met Miranda Lambert a couple years ago. Another good dudebro of mine, Josh, also works radio and she came to the Dodge County Fair. His radio station was sponsoring her that night so he was there doing an interview. He called me before he was going to talk to her. "How quick can you get here?" Well, bad news was I was covering a high school baseball game at Miller Park so was not going to make it. LAME, I know. Well, he looked good in the picture he took with her. All I heard later from him was, "She smelt AMAZING!" Ha!

Could you call that a Flying Jay-bird?

Hello all. I'm back after a big of a long weekend, had to run to catch Favreapalooza last night, so I'm back.
Let me first chime on in the big Bears win Sunday afternoon. I was sober enough to recount all of the game and the first half left something to be desired. The defensive play was horrible. Twenty-one points in the first half is way too much to give up to anyone, let alone the Lions.
Just as the Bears had done in the first half of the previous two wins, the third quarter was where they tore the heart out of opponents. All thanks to a little thing Lovie and the coaches call "coach 'em up."
As this story, from Monday's Chicago Tribune said, the Bears made two big coach decisions that paved the way for change. The first was on the opening kickoff of the second half as Johnny Knox went 102 yards for a touchdown. That's a hat tip to special teams coach Dave Toub.
The other adjustment was one I was calling for in the first half as Calvin Johnson shredded the Bears' secondary for 5 catches and 119 yards. At halftime, Lovie made the move to have Charles Tillman shadow him to whichever side he went on and it ended up paying off as Johnson had just 3 catches for 14 yards.
In fact, the defense as a whole was on in the second half, especially the defensive line, which gave position coach Rod Marinelli the game ball in helping beat his old team (you know the one he led to an 0-16 record last year).
Jay Cutler was not overly impressive on this day, but he was good enough and didn't do anything to lose the game for the Bears. Plus, he made an amazing dive into the endzone (above) which looked a lot like the John Elway play from Super Bowl 31 against the Packers. (Yes the Elway comparisons must continue).



And I'm checking on Tuesday so I figured I'd weigh in on this Brett Favre BS. I'll make it short and sweet, I swear.
I thought Brent, I mean Brett, looked rather good. He was on point in this one. He made the big play when he needed to and that led to the win. His offensive line was on point and that was probably the biggest difference. To me it looked like Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers was going to make Favre beat him and not let Adrian Peterson do it.
The one play I thought Favre messed up on was an attempt at a 40-yard bomb with 3 minutes left that stopped the clock with an incomplete pass instead of taking 40 more seconds off the clock. Aside from that I thought he and Aaron Rodgers were rather even, minus what the stats will tell you (Rodgers does have more yards).
Rodgers was doing it with a downright AWFUL offensive line. I do not know where the Packers coaching staff got off saying these guys were ready to play during training camp and the preseason because both tackles have been worked through four games.
As a Bears fan, I thought we saw enough from both teams to get a good gameplan together and see how one would go about exploiting them.

Allow me to introduce you to Natalin Acvi (Follow her on Twitter). She is smoking hot and was asked to pose for a photoshoot with new L.A. Laker Ron Artest. (He actually set it up for himself, actually, which is a baller move if you ask me). It was actually featured on SI.com's Hot Clicks and it made her the No. 1 trending topic on Google yesterday. Asking who she is? Well, she's starting in the movie Couple's Retreat which comes out this week. Enjoy this and additional photos, here.

Charge this loss to the chief!

Last night I had almost given up on the Brewers when Vaughan decided he wanted to turn on WNBA in which case I said, "I'd rather watch the Brewers over the WNBA no matter the score."
By that point the bottom of the ninth was just getting underway and the Crew was trailing, 6-1.
What followed was a great rally (probably the best all year by the Brewers). It did tie the game to force extras as Mike Cameron flew out to left and Ryan Braun was dead to rights at the plate.
To be fair, you almost have to send Braun to the plate there against an untested arm in left field.
Then free baseball was on. The Crew had just one real chance in the 12th inning, but that came with 2 outs.
Cinncy did its damage in the 13th inning, Todd Coffey's third inning of work. Which is where my problem lies. Coffey, as great as he's been this year for the team, is a one, maybe two inning, guy. Send him out for a third and some guys are going to get a chance to see him for a second time. There is no way a late inning guy is going to get through the order more than once. He's not built for that. The fact that Ken Macha let him go out and throw another inning is all on him. And you may ask if anyone was left in the 'pen. Well, there was still arms in the bullpen, it just seemed Macha didn't want to bring everyone out to win the game.
That's not how you manage baseball in my opinion. You play for that game and worry about the next day when it comes. That's the only way to go about it, if you ask me. Not sure what saving arms can get for you.
Sure, things were pretty dire, heck Anthony Witrado actually wrote a decent story on the game, at times, but false hope was kicked to the side in extra innings.
I believe Herm Edwards (one of my fave coaches) said "You play to win the game!" Well said, sir.

I'm not much on Favre, but this whole Favre goat thing but it appears the goat has been saved. It was meant to be some sort of curse like the Cubs curse. Not sure how much stuffing a goat in the trunk of your car will pay off, but hey. People in the Whiskey Tango portion of the state are scorned and want to make the guy pay. Sure.

In another fun item, I'm a big fan of a great stache. I can't grow one for the life of me, but when athletes don them, it's some great blog news. Colt McCoy must be trying to ditch the babyfaced assassin monicker with this great mustache. Wonder how his amazingly hot girlfriend feels on the matter.



Now to your favorite portion of the program, the Nussie Hunter. In reading SI.com's Hot Clicks today, I came across some news of a study put on by McAfee, the computer people, about the most dangerous people to search. Jessica Biel is No. 1 and Jennifer Aniston made the list too. The Nussie Hunter think's it's BS what Brad Pitt did to her and would gladly take her in, so here you go. Enjoy!

Matt, Jay and the rest of the Bears put on a show

OK, I know I was the guy last week that said not to get too excited about preseason football after a lackluster showing by the Bears in almost every phase of the game.
Well, after Week 2 of the preseason, I'm not punching my ticket to the Super Bowl just yet, but I'm more encouraged by what I saw (or shall I say heard listening to the game on Sirius|XM) Saturday night by the No. 1s on offense and defense.
Jay Cutler made his debut in that navy jersey I'm looking forward to purchasing when I get the coin and the season starts. He engineered two touchdown drives, one of which ended in a pass to Desmond Clark.
Matt Forte delivered the other touchdown on a 32-yard scamper, but even that play gets a credit to Cutler who changed the play from a pass at the line to let the second-year stud do the rest.
In all, Jay went 8 of 13 for 121 yards and a passer rating of 117.8.
"I need to quote David Haugh's story here, because it has a great point in it:
Collectively, it made a statement that echoed through every NFC city and reminded other potential Super Bowl contenders besides the Giants that things have changed in Chicago. Not since the Bulls' last NBA championship in 1998 has there been this much excitement over a No. 6 along the lakefront."
Right on!
Forte's 58 yards on 9 carries is something to take note of, too. It was his preseason debut after coaches sat him out of last week's game against the Bills. There was no sign of that offseason hamstring injury as he came in with something to prove. Have to say, this is where a little preseason use can go a long way. (Check LT who doesn't play in preseason to say it's not always necessary).
Both of those spots are known commodities as we enter the season. The wide receiving corps is the spot all the doubters are pointing too as the weak link for this team. Through two preseason games, they are showing otherwise. It is something I've said all along, a QB make make WR better and Jay will do that. The fact that Earl Bennett and Jay played together at Vanderbilt will be big, too. He's his favorite target so far of the WRs and could be a factor through the season.
Also, David Haugh's story he filed today was about Devin Hester. Actually makes a good point that Devin doesn't need to be a No. 1 like everyone is wanting him to. He can still be valuable without carrying the load of a No. 1. Well say Haugh!
There was some bad news out of Bears camp today, as Dusty Dvoracek was place on IR after straining the MCL in his right knee. The more I read on this it goes back and forth between MCL and a torn ACL. Either way, Dusty is done, again, for the season. Tough luck for him.
Here's some other notes on guys that hurt their standing as the team leaves training camp and notes on those who helped their case to make the 53-man squad. And yes, Earl Bennett is on the helping list. If you're not a Bears fan, be sure to learn the name.
Next week is a trip to Denver to see Kyle Orton and for the Broncos fans to have some fun with Jay. Hold on to your hat!

Welcome to the Favre Free Zone! That's the only time some guy named Brent is going to be mentioned in these pages without any football being played.

Now that that's out of the way, it's time to discuss what was burning up the airwaves today in Bears camp. Apparently what I was talking about yesterday made the front page of that four-letter sports network's Web site. I guess what I talked about yesterday with Jay Cutler and Devin Hester, blew up... or not.
Devin made sure to say it was taken out of context. And since I'm not a fan of ESPN, here's the Trib's story on the matter.
My take is now this, it's over and overblown. Things will get ironed out. Leave this alone. NEXT!
